Friday Jun 16, 2023
"Dear Dr. Sala," writes a friend of Guidelines, "when my husband and I get into an argument, he walks away and comes back as though nothing had ever happened. When he has hurt me and never asks for forgiveness, I feel offended and want to withdraw. Do you have any suggestions which might help?"

How Do I Know That The Bible Is Not Just Another Book?
Friday Jun 16, 2023
Friday Jun 16, 2023
We were flying at an altitude of about 35,000 feet. I had just picked up a book and started reading. Then I noticed that the bearded youth beside me was reading along with me. He had read the Oriental mystics, the philosophers of the ancient Middle East, and even a few college texts, but he had never seen anything quite like the book I was reading. His interest in my book amused me, but I said nothing and kept reading. Finally, he could stand it no longer and said, "What is this book you are reading?" I replied, "It is a commentary on the last book of the New Testament--the Book of Revelation. It is almost 2,000 years old. In this book God tells us of the future and what is going to happen." It is like history pre-recorded.

How Does Pressure Impact Your Life?
Thursday Jun 15, 2023
Thursday Jun 15, 2023
Pressure and stress will either make you or destroy you--it depends on you and how you react to them. The principle of pressure in nature is described in the law of thermodynamics, and this pressure principle results in many of nature's wonders. The world's most precious gem, the diamond, is the result of pressure. Carbon deposits in the depths of the earth respond to intense heat and pressure in producing these coveted bits of stone. This was demonstrated years ago when General Electric announced the "successful synthesis of diamonds." Scientists took carbons and submitted them to more than a million and a half pounds of pressure per square inch, coupled with temperatures of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit to produce the artificial diamond.

What Suffering Teaches Us About God
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
Bob Corbett recounts the joke about the cowboy with the arrow sticking through his chest. "It only hurts when I laugh," he quipped. It is an old story, and for doctors it is an even older problem. The problem is suffering, more narrowly defined, "pain." It is something like the weather. Everybody talks about it, but the only person who really knows what it is all about is the individual who is experiencing it. We sometimes refer to someone we dislike as "a pain in the neck." It demonstrates something of the nature of pain--often hard to diagnose and even harder to treat.

Find Your Hope In God
Tuesday Jun 13, 2023
Tuesday Jun 13, 2023
Do you ever feel like you stand alone, misunderstood and out of step with your colleagues? When people say, "Come on, everybody does it; why can't you, as well?" You aren't sure what to answer. The fact that you won't pad your expense account, or be unfaithful to your mate, convicts those who know it's wrong but haven't the moral courage to do what is right.

Studying The Life of Jeremiah
Monday Jun 12, 2023
Monday Jun 12, 2023
If ever a man was called by God to fail, that man was the prophet Jeremiah. He was the son of a priest, Hilkiah, and he lived in the little village of Anathoth, two and a half miles northeast of Jerusalem. Jeremiah lived a pretty normal life—normal, that is, until he heard the voice of God calling him to a mission which forever wrote his name in the annals of history.

Do You Feel God’s Presence?
Friday Jun 09, 2023
Friday Jun 09, 2023
Immediately before He returned to the Father's presence, Jesus made a promise to His followers: He boldly said, "And remember, I am with you always, day by day, until the close of the age" (Matthew 28:20, Weymouth). The book of Hebrews echoes those words, quoting Jesus as saying, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you!" You can dismiss this, suggesting that it was a promise intended only for those who were alive in the first century. Some do, thereby washing their hands of the whole matter. But if you are honest, you have to say, "That promise was made to all of God's children." If you do that, however, you may have another troublesome question to wrestle with: "If He is there, why don't I feel anything?"

Looking Deeper At Your Problems
Wednesday Jun 07, 2023
Wednesday Jun 07, 2023
When you are only five feet three, and someone who is six feet five towers over you, you quickly learn what intimidation is, especially when the giant leans over you and threatens you. We'd much prefer enemies about our size giving us an equal chance; but, of course, life isn't always fair.

You Are Not Alone

Towards the end of his life David Livingstone, the great missionary, was brought back to his native Scotland to be honored by his countrymen and the University of Glasgow in particular. There was absolute silence as Livingstone told of his experiences in Africa, his left arm hanging limp at his side, the result of being mauled by a lion. He spoke of being felled by fever 30 times. He told of the various hardships he had gladly endured for the cause of Christ.
